Summary

Mottainai is an Earth Day campaign developed for Loanhood, a fashion rental brand championing sustainability. Drawing inspiration from the Japanese art of boro stitching and the philosophy of Mottainai—“don’t waste what is valuable”—the campaign celebrates pre-loved garments as meaningful pieces with stories to tell.

A single garment is styled in three distinct ways, showcasing Loanhood’s rental offerings while demonstrating how sustainable fashion can be versatile, culturally rich, and aspirational. By combining traditional craft with conscious fashion, the project aimed to engage and expand Loanhood’s community, encouraging a mindful approach to style and consumption.

Challenge

Create a visually compelling campaign that communicated Loanhood’s sustainability mission, inspired conscious fashion choices, and engaged new audiences with the brand.

Creative Focus

Inspired by the Japanese concept Mottainai, one garment was styled in three ways using earthy tones to highlight Earth Day and emphasize versatility and sustainable fashion.

Results

Delivered polished still images and a short-form video optimised for website and digital marketing, highlighting Loanhood’s sustainable fashion offerings.
